We are recruiting for an experienced and commercially driven Supermarket Store Manager to take full responsibility for the performance and day-to-day operation of a busy retail store.
As Store Manager, you will lead the management team and wider store team to deliver excellent customer service, strong commercial results and consistently high operational standards.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you will be expected to lead from the front, drive performance, develop your people and ensure the store remains safe, well stocked, compliant and commercially successful.
You will have responsibility for the overall customer experience, team performance, stock management, availability, labour control, compliance and profitability of the store.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full responsibility for the successful day-to-day operation of the store.

- Drive performance against key KPIs including sales, profitability, labour, availability, waste and customer satisfaction.

- Identify opportunities to increase sales and maximise profitability.
- Ensure the store is fully stocked and products are available to customers throughout trading hours.
- Maintain high standards of merchandising and product presentation.
- Manage stock levels effectively and ensure accurate stock control procedures are followed.
- Monitor and reduce waste, shrinkage and stock loss.
- Ensure promotional activity, seasonal campaigns and product launches are implemented effectively.
- Manage staffing levels and rotas in line with customer demand and labour budgets.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding and retention across the store.
- Coach and develop managers and team members through regular feedback and performance reviews.
- Identify high performers and support internal progression and succession planning.
- Effectively manage performance, absence and employee relations issues.
- Ensure all team members receive the appropriate training to perform their roles safely and effectively.
- Maintain full compliance with company policies and relevant legislation.
- Ensure high standards across Health & Safety, food safety, hygiene, age-restricted sales and legal compliance.
- Conduct regular store walks, audits and checks to ensure standards are consistently maintained.
- Ensure the store remains clean, safe, organised and customer-ready at all times.
- Monitor equipment, maintenance and facilities issues and ensure they are resolved promptly.
- Manage cash handling, security procedures and loss-prevention processes.
- Build strong relationships with regional management and wider business stakeholders.
- Lead by example during peak trading periods and maintain a visible presence throughout the store.
You will be an experienced retail leader with strong commercial awareness and a genuine passion for delivering excellent customer experiences.
You should be comfortable managing a large team within a fast-paced, high-volume environment and have the ability to balance people leadership, operational standards and commercial performance.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Store Manager, General Manager, Deputy Store Manager or senior retail leader.
- Experience within Supermarket, Grocery, Convenience, Retail or another high-volume customer-facing environment.
- A proven track record of leading and developing large teams.
- Experience managing managers or department leaders.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience managing sales, budgets, labour and profitability.
- Good knowledge of stock control, availability, waste and shrinkage management.
- Experience working with KPIs and using performance data to drive improvements.
- Strong people-management experience including recruitment, training, performance management and employee relations.
- Excellent customer service standards.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The confidence to make decisions and take ownership of store performance.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach.
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety, food safety and retail compliance.
- The ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced trading environment.
- Flexibility to work across a 7-day retail operation, including evenings, weekends and peak seasonal periods.
