The Role

We are recruiting for an experienced and commercially minded Cinema Manager to join a major cinema chain and support the successful day-to-day operation of a busy cinema.

The Cinema Manager will play a key role in driving overall site performance, delivering an excellent customer experience and helping position the cinema as the first choice for customers within the local market.

A major focus of the role will be leading, coaching and developing a high-performing team. You will work closely with senior management to ensure the cinema is fully equipped to meet customer demand, achieve its commercial objectives and maintain consistently high operational standards.

This is a hands-on leadership position suited to someone with strong business acumen, excellent people-management skills and the enthusiasm to create a positive, engaging environment for both customers and employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help create and maintain a positive working culture, leading by example and promoting an inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Support the delivery of an exceptional customer experience across all areas of the cinema.
  • Implement the cinema's business plan, objectives and KPIs, ensuring the team understands expectations and performance targets.
  • Regularly review performance and communicate progress, priorities and areas for improvement to the wider team.
  • Review film schedules and trading opportunities to help maximise cinema performance and revenue.
  • Monitor customer attendance forecasts and ensure staffing levels and labour hours are adjusted appropriately.
  • Work closely with relevant internal teams to ensure screen content is delivered correctly, on time and scheduled appropriately.
  • Lead, coach and support the cinema team through regular feedback, development conversations and performance reviews.
  • Recognise high-performing team members and actively support career development and internal progression.
  • Communicate incentive schemes and business initiatives effectively, keeping the team engaged with wider commercial goals.
  • Conduct probation reviews, performance reviews and development discussions with team members.
  • Manage underperformance appropriately through clear expectations, regular monitoring and structured feedback.
  • Support and deliver training sessions, refresher training and workshops to develop team capability.
  • Ensure mandatory training and compliance requirements are completed, including areas such as Health & Safety, GDPR and manual handling.
  • Support the recruitment process, including sourcing, interviewing and onboarding new team members.
  • Manage staff costs and labour budgets in line with trade forecasts.
  • Ensure staff hours and payroll information are recorded accurately and on time.
  • Monitor site maintenance requirements and ensure issues are reported and resolved quickly to minimise disruption.
  • Maintain high standards of operational compliance across areas including fire safety, Health & Safety, audits, stock replenishment, cleaning and screen checks.
  • Create and manage effective staff rotas based on expected trading levels.
  • Communicate and delegate tasks clearly to improve productivity and develop team capability.
  • Attend relevant training courses and development workshops to continually strengthen operational and people-management knowledge.

What we're looking for

You will be a confident and approachable leader who enjoys working in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.

You will be comfortable balancing people management, commercial performance and operational standards while remaining visible and hands-on throughout the cinema.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a management or leadership role within a customer-facing environment.
  • Experience within Cinema, Entertainment, Leisure, Hospitality, Retail or another high-volume operation would be highly beneficial.
  • A strong track record of delivering excellent customer service.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to engage, motivate and develop a team.
  • Good commercial awareness and an understanding of revenue, labour costs, budgets and KPIs.
  • Experience forecasting performance and working against commercial targets.
  • Strong people-management experience, including recruitment, performance reviews, employee relations and payroll.
  • The confidence to delegate effectively and hold team members accountable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confidence using IT systems, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • The ability to quickly learn and use venue technology, including tills, ticketing systems and other operational equipment.
  • A positive and approachable leadership style.
  • The ability to lead by example and treat both colleagues and customers with professionalism and respect.
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to support the wider management team.
  • A genuine interest in the cinema, film and entertainment industry.
  • Flexibility to work across a 7-day operation, including evenings, weekends and peak trading periods.

The Ideal Candidate

This opportunity would suit an experienced manager who enjoys combining people leadership, commercial responsibility and customer experience within a fast-paced entertainment environment.

You will be someone who thrives on developing teams, improving standards and delivering strong commercial results. You will be equally comfortable reviewing performance figures, managing labour budgets and coaching employees as you are being visible on the cinema floor during busy trading periods.

For someone passionate about entertainment and looking to develop their career with a major cinema chain, this is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of a busy operation and make a genuine impact on both customer and team experience.
